For black women, the journey to self-care is a radical one, given that we exist in societies and cultures that often seeks to oppress and enforce microaggression against us. The act of self-care alone is a political warfare and requires us to be intentional in taking care of our mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing. If we are ever going to survive the current political & social climate, we can't rest on our laurels.

  • Unplug and disconnect for a few hours. Dim the lights, turn your relax vibes on and listen to some self-guided meditations to quiet the noise, regain your center, and grounded nature.

  • Add a simple self-care skin routine in the morning and at night. It will help elevate your confidence, mental health, and way of living.

If you scored between 7-9, your self-care personality needs entails productive. You might enjoy the following activities.

  • Books- reading isn’t just for leisure or an hobby, but is definitely a great form of self-care. It can be a stress reliever, a mind relaxer, and can take away some mental discomfort.

  • Podcast- listen to your favorite podcasts to garner inspiration, re-spark your optimism for life, and put yourself on a path of growth.

  • Journaling- reflect on your day, emotions, and feelings through journaling! It can help you clear out your thoughts, identify solutions, and put forth positive goals.

  • Faith based activities. It doesn’t matter what and who you believe in, what faith  you subscribe to, or religion you are apart of. Cling onto your faith to ignite your passion, find your purpose, and connect to your higher self.

If you scored between 10-12, your self-care personality needs entails adventurous. You might enjoy the following activities.

  • Hot air balloon ride? Jumping off a plane? Some people are dare-devils and go for adrenaline rush to fulfill their self-care needs and burn out their stress.

  • Hike Mt. Kilimanjaro and into camping? Connecting with nature is therapeutic to enhancing your mind, body, and soul and leaves positive impacts to your existence.

  • Grab your friends and take a road trip! Because good human interaction with your soul tribe is a mood booster

  • Solo travel to an exciting destination and country that exposes you to new cultures and ways of living can give you a sense of renewal, happiness boost, and feeling of resiliency.
